Senior Citizens' Party

Christmas returns to help beat isolation and winter blues - join us on Saturday 25th January 2020

Christmas festivities are set to return to Wetherby on Saturday 25th January 2020 for an afternoon when community dignitaries and groups will pull together to stage the annual post-Christmas party for senior citizens of the town and surrounding areas in a bid to combat loneliness.   “Christmas comes and goes very quickly and by the end of January the festivities are all but forgotten.  For over 35 years we have organised a post-Christmas party to help combat the loneliness, winter blues and sense of isolation which can set in at this time of year”, says Lion President Tim Ritson, the event organiser for Wetherby Lions.

Lord Mayor of Leeds Councillor Eileen Taylor, Mayor of Wetherby Councillor Galan Moss, MP Alec Shelbrooke and Simon Donkin, Wetherby Townsperson of the Year, are geared up to welcome around 200 guests to Wetherby High School for an excellent Christmas lunch created by Alan Lamb and his team and served by Lions, helpers and the dignitaries.  Afterwords guests will be treated to entertainment by Lion members and their partners together with a performance by a local performer.

Last year’s event proved a major success with Lion Past President John Boulton saying: “To all our guests, a very big thank you for attending and to all our fellow Lions and helpers, including girls from Wetherby Athletic Football Club, you were tremendous, making a lot of people very, very happy.”

Our next event

And for next year:-

The 'New Year' complimentary meal for the elderly and isolated of our community takes place again on Saturday 25th January 2020 commencing at 12 Noon.  Lion members and their families, 'Friends of Lions' and many supporters from the local community will again come together to 'serve' the meal to our guests.  This complements our motto 'We Serve'.

We are hoping that Alan Lamb and his catering team and Wetherby High School will again provide the meal and the facilities without whom we could not stage the event.  Following the meal our guests will be treated to a variety show in the school hall where many local artists show off their talents.

If you are over 65 years of age and wish to attend our event then click here to contact us.  See you there ! !
