A very big thank you to the good people of Wetherby for their support in our recent bag pack at Morrison’s supermarket. The event could not have taken place without the support of the Morrisons’ staff, in particular Morrisons Community Champion, Mark Hopkins and our fantastic “bag packers” from Bramham Primary School, Ashfield Nursing Home, Wetherby Athletic Girls Football Team and members from the Vincent de Paul Society. Not forgetting of course Lions Martin, Chris, Ken Mac, Nigel and Glynis.

Lion President John Boulton takes the latest recruit through the Lionistic investiture ceremony. Lion Derek, commented "that since he began helping Wetherby Lions he also feels now that he can contribute to something worthwhile - and put something back in to the community he loves being a part of". Derek has enjoyed wide ranging experiences in his career, he now enjoys his hobby of crown green bowling and an allotment gardener. He now looks to seek out roles within Lionism.

Mr Alan Michael Creighton, a Wetherby Lion, has been appointed MBE for his services to the Energy Industry.

Alan’s career began an Graduate Trainee engineer with the Yorkshire Electricity Board, and has worked for the company, which is now called Northern Powergrid, for 35 years. He currently works as a Senior Smart Grid Development Engineer developing standards and policies for Northern Powergrid and at a national level in areas such as smart metering and embedded generation.
Married with three daughters, Alan is also a member of Wetherby Methodist Church. His hobbies include sailing in the Lake District, DIY, walking and helping in his local community.

At a recent Wetherby District Lions Business Meeting, Lion President John Boulton was delighted to present Lion Maurice Upton a special chevron badge in achievement of his 34 years as a Lion.

Retired fire fighter Maurice over the last 34 years has had a marked effect on the lives of countless individuals within the Wetherby area helping to raise almost £1 million throughout that period. Wetherby District Lions Club were delighted to help the thriving Thorp Arch Boston Spa (TABS) Cricket Club Junior Section by recently donating £1,500.00 to the purchase of new cricket practice nets. Our photo shows a lot of excited junior players coaches and Wetherby District Lions.

It was with great pleasure that Wetherby District Lions were able to help the 1st Tadcaster Brownie Pack with their forthcoming annual pack holiday to Ripon and their summer trip to Sundown with their rainbow group with a donation of £675.00. Lion members met with the brownies recently to hand over the amount and were treated to some wonderful home made cakes and a cup of tea so we thank the brownies for their hospitality and wish them well with their exciting trips.

It was with great pleasure that Wetherby Lions recently gave a £1,049.00 to Wetherby St James Scout Group for new tents and fire pits. Wetherby St James Scouts are a vibrant group led by
Karen Oakes who have supported Lions events on numerous occasions including our 'Senior Citizens Party' in January.

Following our ongoing relationship with Morrisons Supermarket Wetherby Lions recently supported the store by helping with a bucket collection for their chosen charity 'CLIC Sargent'.

On Sunday 4th February an amazing £442.61p was collected thanks to the generosity of the Morrisons customers. In fact Lion members were so impressed with the charity that they also decided to match this amount from their own charity funds so another £442.61p to this amazing charity! Lion members look forward to future events with Morrisons.
