Wetherby Lions took their ‘Cuddly Lions’ out of their den to Tadcaster Carnival earlier today (Sunday 22nd July)

They really enjoyed themselves sat in the sunshine with their Lion member handlers. Twelve of the ‘Cuddly Lions’ were found new homes locally. You can have the opportunity to nurture a ‘Cuddly Lion’ by buying a tombola ticket priced at two for a £1.00.
Wetherby Lions and their ‘Cuddly Lions’ will be out over the next two weekends, at the ‘Motors for Max Charity Motor Show’ (28th & 29th July) onTockwith Airfield and at the ‘Tockwith Show’ (5th August).
At a recent Wetherby District Lions Business Meeting, Lion President John Boulton was delighted to present Lions Colin Gaden, John Hubbard and Kenneth Mackenzie with a 'Certificate of Fellowship' in recognition of their combined 140 years of service to the local community.

Lion Colin, a retired Environmental Health Inspector based in Wetherby Council Offices, now aged 87 years, he has served the Wetherby community within Lionism for 52 years. A founder member of Wetherby Lions in 1966 he has supported the charitable organisation in many ways over the years including attending numerous fundraising events and welfare activities.
Mr Alan Michael Creighton, a Wetherby Lion, has been appointed MBE for his services to the Energy Industry.

Alan’s career began an Graduate Trainee engineer with the Yorkshire Electricity Board, and has worked for the company, which is now called Northern Powergrid, for 35 years. He currently works as a Senior Smart Grid Development Engineer developing standards and policies for Northern Powergrid and at a national level in areas such as smart metering and embedded generation.
Married with three daughters, Alan is also a member of Wetherby Methodist Church. His hobbies include sailing in the Lake District, DIY, walking and helping in his local community.
