Charity Pedal from Barnsley to Bedale via Wetherby
Wetherby Lion member and regular fundraising walker Nigel Keenlyside has swapped his boots for a bike and his poles for pedals to tackle ‘Stage 2’ of the forthcoming
‘Tour de Yorkshire’ – the epic route from Barnsley to Bedale. The 135k journey will be covered over two days with an overnight stop in Wetherby, which is fittingly the heart of this activity and home to the 70 year old ‘MAMIL’.
The route has particular significance for Nigel, for as one of the organisers of the annual Wetherby Lions Beer Festival (May 24th - 25th), he has chosen craft beers from along the route, including Barnsley (Acorn) and Bedale (Pennine). A very big thank you to the good people of Wetherby for their support in our recent bag pack at Morrison’s supermarket. The event could not have taken place without the support of the Morrisons’ staff, in particular Morrisons Community Champion, Mark Hopkins and our fantastic “bag packers” from Bramham Primary School, Ashfield Nursing Home, Wetherby Athletic Girls Football Team and members from the Vincent de Paul Society. Lion President John Boulton takes the latest recruit through the Lionistic investiture ceremony. Lion Derek, commented "that since he began helping Wetherby Lions he also feels now that he can contribute to something worthwhile - and put something back in to the community he loves being a part of". Derek has enjoyed wide ranging experiences in his career, he now enjoys his hobby of crown green bowling and an allotment gardener. He now looks to seek out roles within Lionism.

District Governor Clive Barwell takes one of the latest recruits through the Lionistic investiture ceremony. Lion Glynis, retired Medical Secretary, now enjoys archaeology, supporting brownies and her local school. She commented " I am looking forward to supporting a wider local community through my membership of the Lions organisation.
