DO your taste buds need a tickle?

Then look no further than Wetherby’s annual Beer Festival

The Wetherby Lions-backed event, which comes to town on May 24-25, in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, promises to be a real blockbuster, with great ales to sample, plenty of food to graze and a variety of music to suit all tastes.

With a pervading cycling theme at the Festival, the ales have all been hand-picked from the various breweries along the route of Stage Two of the 'Tour de Yorkshire'.

So you’ll be able to sample such delights as Barnsley-based Acorn Brewery’s yellow jersey-coloured On Ya Bike; Ainsty of York’s Dark Mild; Bingley Brewery’s Bingley Bitter; Bridgehouse of Eccup’s Aired Ale; Hambletons of Ripon’s Stallion Amber; Nomadic of Leeds’ Pale Ale; Pennine of Bedale’s South2North; Revolutions of Castleford’s Tour de Cas; Roosters of Bilton’s Capability Brown and Wetherby Brewco’s Wetherby Classic.

These are all beers that you wouldn’t necessarily find in any old pub, so here’s a chance to sample some rare and satisfying treats. It is said that the earliest confirmed barley beer to date was brewed at Godin Tepe in the central Zagros Mountains of Iran, between 5,400 and 5,000 years ago. It’s a long way from there to Wetherby and a long time in-between, but you can bet today’s offerings will taste a darn site better!.
