They were dancing in the aisles as Christmas made a welcome return to Wetherby at a weekend in late January with the town’s elderly residents belatedly getting into the festive spirit.

Some 200 senior citizens' gathered at Wetherby High School to be entertained at the annual Wetherby Lions organised event, which put a lot of smiles on a lot of faces.

Thanks to generous support from Sir Robert Ogden, Morrisons and Bon Bon's Chocolates, the guests revelled in a social environment which included a lavish meal prepared by Wetherby Ward Councillor (and the Chef - Patron) Cllr Alan Lamb, a 60s Singalong with Trevor Woodhead on the keyboard, a bingo session and prize raffle. Also helping to the success of the day were local member of Parliament Alec Sherbrooke, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Eileen Taylor, Wetherby Ward Councillors Cllr Norma Harrington and Cllr Jo Maltby (the sous chefs) and the Mayor of Wetherby, Cllr Galan Moss.
