Who do we help?    Wetherby Lions have raised in excess of £960,000 in 56 years

Wetherby District Lions Club is a service organisation which raises funds for charitable purposes and cooperates with other charities and not-for-profit organisations to help them achieve their aims.  Beneficiaries of the Club include local, national and international causes, helped by the International nature of the Lions organisation.

Support for a local Guide who is attending Roverway 2024, a European Scout and Guide event aimed at young people aged 16-22 as part of the Girlguiding North East England contingent.  She will join 5000 guides and scouts from across Europe for an exciting jamboree.

Our support for Ukraine continues with the purchase of a fire engine for a small town of Volodymyr where fighting equipment has been remove to major cities.  The local mayor has made a desperate plea for the fire engine.

Support for Tina and her colleagues at the Riding for the Disabled Association.  A new pony called Robbie to enable riders to enjoy the outdoors and the company horses.

Life Without Limits

Support for ‘Life Without Limits’, a group for girls in their teens and twenties with disabilities and complex needs, who rely on structured groups and carers to facilitate their socialising.  A grant was given to secure venue hire for a year to help get the group up and running.

Lions are saying 'thank you' to Claire Wiggins.  Claire, despite having severe disabilities, raises money for charity and in lockdown is making 'Pamper Hampers' for members of the community, for GPs, nurses and even carers, full of handmade items and a range of useful products.

Lions are saying ‘thank you!’ to carers who work tirelessly to look after relatives and friends.  and have produced forty vouchers that will be distributed to carers redeemable at The Fox & Hounds (Walton) or The Bay Horse (Kirk Deighton). The vouchers can also be used to buy groceries from their shops

Wetherby Christmas Spirit

There are few things better than receiving a Christmas hamper, filled to the brim with favourite seasonal treats! Thanks to the community spirit in Wetherby, a large number of deserving families received such a gift this Christmas. Local councillor, Dean Buckle (The Wetherby Bike Shack), his wife Mally and members of the Old Men’s Parliament have joined forces with Morrison’s Supermarket;

Kicking Back !

Wetherby Athletic Girls U6s & U7s is new group to encourage girls to play football. They normally play indoors however due to COVID-19 they are staying outdoors.  Lions provided the hoodies and jackets for the girls.

Disaster Support

The Beirut Disaster in Lebanon prompted a request for support from Lions International, Wetherby Lions responded.

Support of funding for Wetherby Arts Festival and their 'Katy Hewison's 'Improplay' Project'. Katy will present dancing tuition in the open air and on the Zoom internet platform to Primary School children.

Support of funding for six (6) laptops for young people who are being educated at home via the internet, however not all families are able to provide this equipment for their children.

Support of Radio Aire's 'Cash for Kids Appeal' in providing funding to help local families who need it the most in our communities. Those who are living in or on the brink of poverty will be feeling the impact of Coronavirus more keenly.

Support of Kirk Deighton Rangers Football Club (under 8s) in providing funding for extra kit for the girls under 8s team.

Support of 'The Apex Challenge' event where 400 young people from across the UK take part in a series of team adventure events over a weekend-long competition.

Support of Crossley Street School following their their choir singing at our 'Dickensian Christmas Market & Craft Fayre'.

This donation was made possible thanks to the generosity of the Morrisons customers and to Morrisons Supermarkets that matched the collection.

Funds collected from our Christmas activities were donated to many organisations in the local Wetherby and district communities.  These groups included:- Wetherby Musical Theatre Group, Wetherby Runners Athletic, Collavoce Choir, Wetherby Silver Band, Teenage Cancer Trust, 7th Wetherby Brownies, Police Benevolent Fund, Deighton Gates School, Martin House Hospice, St James Parish Church and Ripon Lions Club.

Eckersley House, The Sick Chidren's Trust

The Sick Children's Trust believes keeping families together significantly improves the recovery of seriously ill children. We provide free, high-quality ‘Home from Home’ accommodation, as well as emotional and practical support, to families with sick children in hospital in the UK. 

Wetherby Sports Association

The Association had to find an excess of £5,000 before the insurance company would authorise the start of remedial work. We decided that we would top up the £1,900 the Association had already raised through its own efforts and presented a cheque for the balance of £3,100 at the following evening’s wetherbyhour event on Tuesday evening.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance

The donations received go directly into the life saving service provided. However, as an independent Charity we rely on the generosity of those who support the service to continue to save lives across Yorkshire.

WiSE

Wetherby in Support of the Elderly (WiSE) is a registered charity organisation funded by Leeds City Council. Our aim is to improve quality of life for the over 60’s by providing community based activities, information, help and support.

St Gemma's Hospice

St Gemma's Hospice is a friendly, warm and safe place at the heart of the local community with a large range of expert services to support patients, their families and friends. Care is focussed around the needs of the individual and we are respectful of all beliefs, religions and cultures.

Yorkshire Countrywomen's Association

A group of Yorkshire ladies of all ages, all with different talents and interests merging into 103 branches throughout the county from Redcar in the North to Firbeck in the South and Cragg Vale in the West to Hornsea in the East.
