Senior Citizens' Party - Come along again on 25th January 2025

'My Kind of Town’ when You’re ‘Young at Heart' ! !

“Thank you to Wetherby Lions for a great lunch, fantastic service and wonderful entertainment!”

Tables had been laid and decorated with jars of flowers; a superb lunch of turkey with all the trimmings followed by pavlova.  It was all cooked by Chef Alan Lamb and his helpers including Sous-chefs Norma Harrington and Linda Richards; the meal was accompanied by wines, beers and soft drinks and finished off with teas and coffees.  Clean plates all round!

Pre-lunch Bingo was called by Neil O’Byrne together with Town Mayor Dawn Payne and great prizes were handed out; some guests winning more than once!

After the meal, guests were entertained by ‘Frank Sinatra’ – Phil Fryer - who wowed the audience with all the old favourites including 'My Kind of Town' and 'Young at Heart'.

“It was an absolute pleasure to attend on Saturday and I would like to add that it was an amazing day.  I enjoyed helping out on this fantastic event; all your volunteers do an amazing job.” - Dawn Payne, Town Mayor of Wetherby.

"I would like to thank your organisation for a very special lunch and entertaining concert.  All my friends enjoyed it. Everything about it was excellent and the gifts were very generous.  Thank you". - Doreen Dunning.

“It were a reight grand do!” - Norman Staples – and it were !

For over 35 years, Wetherby District Lions have organised a post-Christmas party to help combat the loneliness, winter blues and sense of isolation which can set in at this time of year.  A big ‘Thank You’ to all our helpers on the day including 'HDP Event Medical Services' and 'AV-Matrix Ltd' who supplied the sound systems.  Also, to 'Bon Bons (Wholesale) Wetherby' for the wonderful confectionery packages for each of the 180 guests !

This event is made possible by the generosity of Wetherby and district residents who support our sleigh ride outings in the area and our 'Dickensian Christmas Market & Craft Fayre' event.  A special thanks to Mark and his team at Wetherby in Support of the Elderly for their assistance.

Please continue to support Wetherby District Lions who in turn support your communities.

Do you wish to attend the event next time, then look out for announcements next year?  Click here to complete the contact form for your ticket(s), please include attendee names(s), postal address and telephone number.

And for next year:-

The 'New Year' complimentary meal for the elderly and isolated of our community takes place again on Saturday 25th January 2025 commencing at 12 Noon.  Lion members and their families, 'Friends of Lions' and many supporters from the local community will again come together to 'serve' the meal to our guests.  This complements our motto 'We Serve'.

We are hoping that Alan Lamb and his catering team and Wetherby High School will again provide the meal and the facilities without whom we could not stage the event.  Following the meal our guests will be treated to a variety show in the school hall.

If you are over 65 years of age and wish to attend our event then click here to contact us.  See you there ! !
