Wetherby Townsperson of the Year - 2026

2026 winner is Louise Pedley

Last year's Townsperson Mark Barrow, Lion President Ruth Holt and Lion Vice President Tricia Wadsworth were given an impossible task when presented with the shortlist of this year's nominees for 'Townsperson of the Year 2026'.  Wetherby should be justifiably very proud of having so many public spirited residents !

This year's Townsperson of the Year is Louise Pedley

"Well, that was out of the blue and totally unexpected.  This morning, I was awarded the Wetherby Townsperson of the Year 2026 for my services to the local community.  For once I was just about speechless.”

Louise, this year’s recipient seen left with Lion President Ruth Holt, has been a supporter of many local organisations such as the Chair of 'Friends of Deighton Gates School', member of Wetherby Toddlers Group, parent helper for the Scouts/Rainbows group, however perhaps her largest contribution to the people of Wetherby is the setting up 'Wetherby Families & Friends' Facebook group in 2016 as a

page to help inform families of local events, give people a place to share information and ask questions about family life etc.

In addition to her regular activities, Louise will support all kinds of local activities that ask for ad hoc help - for example the request from Wetherby Civic Society for helpers to pull up invasive balsam at Scaur bank or a request for ourselves for Santa's elves at Christmas time.
