Wetherby Townsperson of the Year - 2019/20
The 2019/20 winner is Simon Donkin
Lion President Tim was pleased to present Simon Donkin with the prestigious ‘Wetherby Townsperson of the Year 2019/20 Award’ in front of an excited crowd at our ‘Dickensian Christmas Market’ held in December 2019.
Simon has been involved in organising events in Wetherby for the last 35 years. It was in fact his 32nd year organising the Community Bonfire this year.
Simon, known as a very proud and modest person, has never sought any recognition for the work he does for Wetherby behind the scenes. Notwithstanding, he has worked with 'Wetherby Arts Festival', 'Wetherby Musical Theatre Group' and 'Welcome to Wetherby' among many others. He was a key person in 2012 in the organisation of the 'Last Night of the Proms' for the Queens Diamond Jubilee. And on behalf of the Wetherby Lions he has provided the public address system for the Wetherby Duck Race and has been involved in the 'Wetherby Beer Festival; the Wetherby Christmas Lights Switch On and Remembrance Sunday have also benefited from his input.
As well as holding down a very responsible job Simon always puts Wetherby first and now his name will be etched forever in the town’s history. Congratulations, Simon, from Wetherby Lions.
