Lions Eye Camps

With the aid of doctors and nurses from Medecins sans Frontieres tent hospitals are set up by local Lions clubs and medical staff to provide mass treatment to the rural population in India where cataracts in the elderly are endemic. Over a number of days a conveyor-like system of operations take place, after which patients are provided with a pair of spectacles to wear after the removal of their bandages and restoration of their eyesight. Although not the sole criterion for supporting such a cause eye camps are an extremely cost-effective way of treating a large number of cataract sufferers, giving them back a degree of independence they had lost and making them less of a burden on their families. We have therefore made a donation of £1,000 to Lions Eye Camps.
