Charity Pedal from Barnsley to Bedale via Wetherby
Wetherby Lion member and regular fundraising walker Nigel Keenlyside has swapped his boots for a bike and his poles for pedals to tackle ‘Stage 2’ of the forthcoming
‘Tour de Yorkshire’ – the epic route from Barnsley to Bedale. The 135k journey will be covered over two days with an overnight stop in Wetherby, which is fittingly the heart of this activity and home to the 70 year old ‘MAMIL’.
The route has particular significance for Nigel, for as one of the organisers of the annual Wetherby Lions Beer Festival (May 24th - 25th), he has chosen craft beers from along the route, including Barnsley (Acorn) and Bedale (Pennine). He will pedal off from Barnsley on Wednesday April 10th, arriving in Wetherby around 5.30 pm. His reward for a day’s energetic biking will be a pint of beer at 'The Mews' on Bank Street, Wetherby.
After a day’s well-earned rest, Nigel will set off for Bedale from Wetherby Market Place at 9.30 am on Friday April 12th, arriving in Bedale around mid-afternoon. If you wish to sponsor him (all amounts are most welcome) you can make a donation through http://tinyurl.com/y6ev677a or you can meet him for a drink and hand over the money in cash. All proceeds of the event will go to the Lions chosen charity. Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
And if you require evidence of his exertions come along to the Wetherby Beer Festival at St James’s Church Rooms on Friday May 24th (6 -10 pm) and Saturday May 25th
(Noon – 8 pm) and raise a glass alongside his picture board.
