Understanding the risk factors, knowing the symptoms, and undergoing routine medical check-ups can help in the management of prostate cancer.

Wetherby Lions have recently participated in a national Prostate Cancer awareness campaign by Lions International UK and Prostate Cancer UK. We approached 20 local businesses, trade counters, clubs and sports facilities etc. and asked that they display an informative poster to help raise awareness and we thank them for assisting with this. As part of our commitment to local, national and international causes, we have also made a donation to Prostate Cancer UK to help fund research.
By raising awareness and empowering men and their families with the knowledge to make informed choices, we can help in the early detection and treatment of this disease.
Prostate cancer is not always life-threatening, but when it is, the earlier you catch it the more likely it is to be cured. In the UK prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men with more than 63,000 cases diagnosed every year. More than 12,000 men die from prostate cancer every year.
Around 510,000 men are living with or after prostate cancer. 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and if you’re over 50, or you’re black, or your dad or brother had it, you’re at even higher risk.
