Wetherby Lions visit Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Wetherby Lions recently visited the Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s new Flying base near Wakefield to gain some first hand knowledge of how the operation runs.

We were introduced to the senior Pilot, Paramedics, Flight desk controller and support staff who were all on call at the time. After introductions we viewed the Helicopter and spent some considerable time asking many questions about the machine and operations. This was followed with a full briefing at the flight desk where all incoming calls are prioritised and dealt with.

We were all struck by the professionalism, responsibility and enthusiasm of all staff involved and came away truly inspired by our visit.

Have a look as these Stats:

  • Running costs is £12,000 per day

  • Emergency missions 3 per day with 1000 missions flown every year

  • 90% of the Yorkshire population live within a 20min flight time of base

  • 90%of patients carried are taken directly to Major Trauma Centres for treatment

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is a Charity providing their service with very little Government support and we hope to continue to help this truly amazing organization who do so much to keep us all safe.
