Wetherby District Lions Club - 50th Charter Anniversary Dinner
Wetherby and District Lions Club celebrated their 50th Anniversary by holding their Charter Anniversary Dinner at the Rudding Park Hotel on Saturday 23rd of April 2016.
This milestone in the Club’s history marks 50 years of continuous service to the community, having raised more than 3/4 £Million in fund raising, 90% of which was channeled to local causes, but not forgetting the wider appeals to international causes through our Lions International organization. Lion President Robert Rolfe also was pleased to acknowledge, during the evening, the 50 years of dedicated service by Lion Colin Gaden (the only remaining original Charter Member of the Club) and his partner Gillian.

He also reminded those present, that whilst we had an illustrious past to be proud of, the future was in the hands of the new and younger members recently recruited, by the sterling efforts, amongst others, of Lion Vice President Jonathan Handley, who presented a splendid 50th Year Banner to the Club to mark the occasion.
This year continues to be a busy one with our Beer Festival on Saturday the 28th May at the St James Church Rooms, Wetherby, in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Then followed by the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride on the 18th of June, when more than 1800 riders will set off from Wetherby Race Course on a 72 mile route to Filey Brigg. Over 10 participating charities will benefit from the proceeds, which has raised over £100,000 in past years. The next event of note will take place on the last day of the Wetherby Food Festival on Sunday 10th of July, when we will be repeating our popular Duck Race on the River Wharfe, finishing at the bridge on the Ings. Full details of these events and how to support them can be viewed on our web-site www.wetherbylions.org
