Buckingham Palace Celebration for Wetherby Lions

The association of Lions Club International was formed in 1917 and to celebrate the achievements of the British Isles Lions Clubs the Countess of Wessex recently hosted a centenary birthday reception at Buckingham Palace. Lion Tim Ritson represented Wetherby District Lions Club along with 400 members from other groups from around the country.

The warm welcome by the palace staff more than compensated for the sub-zero temperatures and inevitable security delays incurred during the passage through the famous gates and across the courtyard to the main reception area.

In a friendly and well informed speech the Countess paid tribute to the achievements of Lions both nationally and internationally, highlighting the contribution to disaster relief and humanitarian causes throughout the world and in the UK to its projects, some being, diabetes, paediatric cancer and environmental issues.
