Wetherby Lions were privileged to receive a visit at this week’s meeting from District Governor Lion Andrew Kerr Sutherland.

DG Sutherland travelled south from Edinburgh to witness the handing over of a £5,000 cheque to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance - the Wetherby Lions’ chosen charity - as a result of May’s Beer Festival in the town.

Receiving a commemorative Wetherby Lions pennant from Lion President Tim Ritson, DG Sutherland paid tribute to the local efforts, saying: “This is what the Lions are all about - service to others. We are all Lions for different reasons but with one common aim - to be of service to our communities. Wetherby clearly does this very well.”

DG Sutherland has worked for a number of years in the health and social care sectors, where he has led teams through major change projects to deliver adequate levels of care from much reduced budgets. Additionally he has over thirty years experience in the horse world.

Writing about Andrew in The Scots Magazine, Fyfe Hendrie called him “The Scottish Horse Whisperer”, a title he is happy to have “as long as people don’t think there are any magical answers to horse problems.”

As District Governor, Andrew wished all members a successful year with service and community, District and International projects. A passionate believer in the strength of a team working together, Andrew knows what a difference a team makes when this means sharing the ideas, knowledge and skills of all members for the benefit of the District and Lions International.
