Otters furious over closure of 'takeaway' ! !

Wetherby Angling Club has put a huge amount of work into constructing a new fence to deter otters. A spokesperson for the club says “not only does it help protect our fish but also the bird life that lives on the ponds as the otters cannot destroy their nests or eat the eggs.

But not everyone is happy…local otters are reported to be ‘furious’ with the club over the new fence arrangements. A spokesotter said “otters are now facing severe hardship as we cannot raid nearby fish stocks or snatch birds’ eggs. Wetherby Angling Club has refused to meet with us so we are writing to our MP and lobbying the council for support. We will now have to work much harder to get access to fish and we are putting out an appeal for wire cutters.”

Wetherby District Lions Club has been pleased to support Wetherby Angling Club with this project and we have been assured that the otters had access to plenty of other fish in ponds and rivers.
