Support for ‘Life Without Limits’

Wetherby District Lions Club have supported 'Life Without Limits’, a social group that was set up with our help in January 2023. It is a group for girls in their teens and twenties with disabilities and complex needs, who rely on structured groups and carers to facilitate their socialising.

The Lions granted money to secure venue hire for a year to help get the group up and running. It’s proving to be popular and has grown to 24 people attending from across Leeds, including Wetherby, Pudsey and Wakefield.

Whilst the focus is on the girls having fun, sharing ideas and inspiring one another, it’s also proving to be a fantastic support group for their parents/carers who come to help their girls access the group.

They meet on the first Sunday of the month at the Vinery Centre - a purpose built, wheelchair accessible building with changing places, toilets, sensory, soft play, activity rooms and plenty of disabled parking.

Each session has a focus theme, together with games, music, art, crafts, coffee and cake. So far, the girls have enjoyed making clay pots, planting bulbs and fabric painting. There are exciting sessions planned for the rest of the year, including a festival workshop with steel pan band ‘Steel Concordia’. Also Dance and Circus Skills workshops, a photo shoot and card designing with a local artist.

If you would like further details about the group, would like to book a place or sponsor a session you can contact them on their website www.lifewithoutlimitsleeds.org.uk and on their Facebook page.
