We couldn’t do it without you ! !

‘Thank you!’ to the good people of Wetherby and Linton for their terrific support of, and generous donations to, Santa’s sleigh!

Our famous 'Dickensian Christmas Market' was a victim of the current circumstances but Santa is for children and he will not be beaten! With the help of his reindeer provided by Tockwith Motor Sport (TMS), he managed to complete nine (9) outings in Wetherby and one of Linton with his wonderful elves and the fantastic support of the people who came out in droves to cheer him on. It was wonderful to see the delight on the faces of children and real smiles and laughter from grown-ups! It cheered everyone up!

Restrictions meant social distancing but very generous donations were made each night. Some feedback:

“My boys absolutely loved seeing Santa last night – it was so lovely you were able to find a way to do this safely despite the restrictions. I very much appreciate the time and effort that goes into this each year. Please know that it brings the children such joy, they’d been waiting weeks for it and weren’t disappointed!!” Julie

“Can I thank all concerned in taking Santa around Wetherby. We have just waved and whooped at him outside my daughter's house with my 5year grandson. What fun and excitement in such challenging times, yet tonight was almost magical and brought back many, many happy memories of years gone by where Wetherby Lions have made Christmas very special. Thank you all once again and my I wish you and all your families a very merry and healthy Christmas.” Jane

“The evening was a great success! Our committee members all thoroughly enjoyed the ‘event’ and it was as if the whole community was crying out for a chance to be festive and to be a part of an occasion. We were totally surprised by the turn out, particularly near the Windmill, Northgate Lane and Trip Lane. It really raised people's spirits. You have all been so helpful and willing. I am sure that the Linton Village Fundraisers would all be very keen to do it again next year if the Lions are happy to do so. Many thanks and a very Merry Christmas to you all!” Helen.

We are all having to cope with restrictions this year and Wetherby District Lions have had to cancel several main events and are having to be very careful with remaining funds.

Money raised will be used for hampers, vouchers for meals for carers and put towards next year’s 'Senior Citizens’ Party'. The party would normally be organised for January but we are now looking at next summer. We hope to be back on track next year!

Santa and Wetherby District Lion members wish you all a very Merry Christmas! ! See you next year!

See you soon Santa!!
