Wetherby District Lions are saying ‘thank you!’ to forty (40) voluntary carers who work tirelessly to look after relatives and friends. We had planned a meal for them, however current restrictions prevent this. Therefore, the Lions, with a very generous donation from Sir Robert Ogden, have produced forty vouchers that will be distributed to carers redeemable at The Fox & Hounds (Walton) or The Bay Horse (Kirk Deighton). Alan Lamb, owner of the two restaurants and the chef-patron at our annual 'Senior Citizens Party', will be busy preparing delicious meals to takeaway or to be delivered. The vouchers can also be used to buy groceries from their shops.
The annual Lions’ senior citizens party has also fallen victim to the pandemic. This wonderful event brings together a wide spectrum of the community to offer excellent food and good company to around 200 senior citizens. The meal is prepared by Wetherby Ward Councillor (and the Chef-Patron) Cllr. Alan Lamb, ably assisted by sous chefs Wetherby Ward Councillors Norma Harrington and Jo Maltby. Contributing to the success of last year’s event were local member of Parliament Alec Sherbrooke, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr. Eileen Taylor and the Mayor of Wetherby, Cllr. Galan Moss.
We hope that we can entertain our senior citizens with a similar event later next year! In the meantime, have a look at last year's event photos hereor videos here.
